The bookings for the all new Hyundai Verna are now open. You can also pre-book one at a Hyundai Dealership near you. As it is all set to be launched in India on 22nd August, let’s know more about it.

In the recent years, the Verna has lost its popularity. Thanks to the growing sales of its main rivals, the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The Verna is even outclassed by its German rivals, The Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid.

So, can the New Verna regain its fan following and top the sales charts again? Let’s find out!

Talking about the exteriors and design, the Verna has received cosmetic changes and will come with Hyundai’s Fluidic 2.0 design and some styling bits are borrowed from its elder sibling, the Elantra.

The top-end variants will come equipped with projector headlamps, projector beam fog lamps, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), LED tail lamps and 16 inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Changes have also been made to the dimensions of the Verna. Length has been increased by 15 mm, it is now 29 mm wider, and wheelbase has increased by 10 mm. These changes will result in more space inside the car. Ground clearance has  been raised by 5 mm(now 170 mm) and the Verna will now get a bigger trunk volume/boot space of 481 liters that is 16 liters of more space than the boot of the ongoing car, but still lesser than the class leading City’s and the Ciaz’s ‘massive’ 510 liters! The Verna will be built with high strength steel which we have seen in other premium Hyundai cars like the Creta. Due to these changes, the Verna will now weigh   more than the ongoing model. Also, the NVH levels are expected to get better. On the inside, we will get to see some major changes. The stylish black and beige colour combination of interior and cabin has made way for a sportier all-black cabin and a sportier steering. Top end trims will be equipped with a 7.0 inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Audio-Video navigation and voice recognition, Cruise control, a sunroof and front ventilated seats (first in segment) which we have earlier seen in the Elantra.

The Verna will be powered by the same set of engines. The 1.6l petrol engine which produces 123 BHP of power and 151 Nm of torque and the 1.6 diesel engine which produces  128 BHP of power and a healthy 260 Nm of torque, though these engines have been returned to deliver better  fuel efficiency. Both the engines will come mated to a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed automatic gearbox. The 1.4 liter petrol and diesel engines may be introduced later as entry level variants.

Hyundai has improved the safety features in its premium vehicles, and it is the same with the Verna, which comes with ABS and EBD with driver and passenger airbags as standard. The top end trims would come with 6 airbags with rear parking sensors and a parking camera. The Verna will now get disk brakes on all four wheels. This shows that Hyundai has not compromised on safety features at all!

The Verna’s price will range from Rupees 9.00 lakh to 14.00 lakh (ex-showroom prices).

So, with improved styling and design, a better cabin, more space, recalibrated engines, and some segment first features, can the Verna regain its lost popularity and end the good times for the City and the Ciaz? Well, Hyundai has worked really hard on this Verna. So let us hope it attracts customers looking for a premium C-segment sedan, gives its rivals a tough competition and a run for their money!
